Why We Choose Our Financing and Setup Model

We designed our financing approach to spread costs evenly while keeping things affordable as we grow. This avoids placing a heavy financial burden on future residents from the beginning, and supports a sustainable scaling-up process that benefits everyone involved.

How Our Model Maintains Affordability

Our model minimizes external costs by avoiding reliance on investor or bank-driven financing, which brings interest and dividend obligations. If we had opted for a pre-purchased or renovation vessel funded largely by outside investments, residents would directly pay for those added costs.

Instead, we’re building a more relaxed, community-focused residential ship with safeguards that protect our culture and way of life on board.

Design principle

Keep monthly costs stable

Spread costs evenly while scaling, without forcing early residents to carry the heaviest burden.

Potential Impacts of Alternative Financing

Traditional finance models can introduce pressure to maximize short-term profit, often at the expense of residents.

Higher costs to residents
More aggressive marketing and sales campaigns
Increased short-term rentals and transient visitors
A focus on vacationers rather than long-term community members
Reduced resident influence on decision-making
Cost-cutting (amenities, dining, maintenance)
Cheaper, fewer, or missed ports
View the outcomes we’re avoiding
  • Higher costs to residents
  • More aggressive marketing and sales campaigns
  • Increased short-term rentals and transient visitors
  • A focus on vacationers rather than long-term community members
  • Reduced resident influence on decision-making
  • Cost-cutting (amenities, dining, maintenance)
  • Cheaper, fewer, or missed ports

Cost Implications Based on Financing Options

Monthly resident costs vary depending on the financing structure. Added investor or bank costs often flow through to monthly fees.

100% financed

$3,800/month

~500 residences purchased in the first 12 months

80% financed

$7,000/month

Roughly ~200 residences purchased

60% financed

$2,800/month

~400 residences purchased

40% financed

$1,200/month

~600 residences purchased

Note: Costs could decrease over time as more residences are purchased and loans are refinanced, or eventually drop to zero once fully paid off.

In contrast, a rental-only model would add a minimum of $2,600/month per residence on top of existing higher rental fees.

In Summary

Our financing model prioritizes community, affordability, and long-term sustainability. By avoiding heavy external investor influence, we protect the essence of our residential ship lifestyle, ensuring residents enjoy a welcoming, stable environment without undue financial pressure or commercial compromises.

Pet friendly?

We will be offering opportunities for limited numbers of cats AND dogs to be onboard in specific areas and residential blocks, with additional fees and regulations.

This is to be able to provide standard veterinary services, as countries’ laws and restrictions vary. This may exclude animals from being able to seek service on land.
