Is residential cruising the same as a world cruise?

No. World cruises are extended trips with a defined start and end date. Residential cruising is an ongoing lifestyle where the ship is your home and the journey continues without a fixed endpoint.

Do residents actually live on board full time?

Yes. Residents have dedicated living spaces and treat the ship as their primary home, whether they stay continuously or step away periodically.

How long do people typically stay?

Length of stay varies. Some residents commit for multiple years, while others choose shorter rental periods before deciding on longer term options.

How is residential cruising different from living abroad?

Living abroad often involves repeated logistics like finding leases, relocating, and rebuilding community. Residential cruising keeps your home base stable while the destinations change.

Who is residential cruising best suited for?

It tends to fit people who want slow travel with a stable routine, including retirees, remote professionals, couples, and anyone who wants global living without constant planning.

Is residential cruising a permanent commitment?

No. Residential cruising can be approached through long term rentals or different ownership options, depending on the level of commitment you want.

Do I need to be retired to live on board?

Not at all. Many people are drawn to residential cruising because it allows them to keep routines and projects going while living globally.

What does a typical day feel like on a residential cruise?

It is routine plus exploration. You can keep a normal rhythm on board, then go ashore when the ship is in port, returning to the same home and community each day.

Is residential cruising social all the time?

Community is central, but participation is always your choice. Many residents enjoy a balance of social life and privacy, depending on the day.

Can I personalize my residence?

Owners may be able to personalize their residence within safety guidelines. Specific rules are outlined through official policies and terms.

How does the ship decide where to go?

Residential cruising is designed around long term global travel, with routes planned in advance and shaped by the realities of operating a home at sea.

What’s the difference between owning and renting on Fabled Voyages?

Owners can choose (based on availability) a specific Residence to occupy for the duration of their contract. Owners have the ability to rent, sell, and modify their Residence within safety and operational boundaries. Owners can also provide input on cosmetic or shared-space improvements and, as a group, on future destinations. Renters are assigned a Residence based on availability for temporary occupancy during their rental term. Renters cannot rent, sell, or modify their temporary Residence, and they do not have a say on ship changes.

Can I sell or transfer my residence later?

Yes. Owners may sell or transfer a Residence depending on the duration of their contract. Transfers are subject to standard background checks and any other owner qualification steps we require for all residents.

What happens if my plans change?

Life changes, and plans change. For owners, this is why we offer rental services, and why you may be able to liquidate and sell your Residence to us or to others. Upgrading or downgrading may also be available depending on Residence availability.

Is this a vacation product or a primary residence?

It can be your primary residence, a vacation home, a rental, or whatever you make it. That’s why we offer multiple options for access, including ownership, fractional ownership, and both long and short-term rentals.

What does a typical day look like on board?

A typical day is what you make of it. On board, restaurants, facilities, and amenities will be open for you to enjoy or relax. We typically stay in port long enough to give residents ample time to explore. Larger ports may mean more days to see more, while smaller ports may also involve longer stays so residents can explore without overwhelming a location.

About how many people live on board?

Capacity is best measured by the number of Residences rather than a standard passenger count. We expect a mix of residents of different ages and backgrounds, including singles, couples, and some families. Some residents may purchase more than one Residence and combine them. Our current estimate is roughly 1,400 to 1,600 residents on board, plus potentially another 100 to 150 rental guests.

What’s the balance between quiet and social spaces?

While our model has not yet been tested, we expect a balance within reason. This is a dense living environment, more like a downtown apartment building than a farm or the suburbs. We plan to offer both quieter areas and more social areas, including dedicated spaces for each. Some residents may find it more social than their current home, while others coming from major city life may find it calmer. This is a residential ship where people live, not a casino environment.

Can friends and family visit?

Yes. Owners may host friends or family in their Residence at the additional cost of direct expenses (for example: port fees, taxes, and dining). Depending on availability, owners may also book a separate rental unit for visitors at a discounted rate tied to an accrued 4-weeks-per-year rate, or visitors can rent from us or other residents.

How does mail and package delivery work?

We expect mail and package delivery to work in several ways. First, we plan to maintain addresses in 2 to 4 countries (based on the most common resident home countries). Residents can send mail there, and roughly every 2 to 3 months we would use a logistics provider to forward accumulated mail and packages to a future port where we meet up. Second, we may provide advance notice for certain major ports where items can be sent more directly (this may involve additional costs and would not be the primary method). Third, some services (for example Amazon lockers or pickup locations) may allow residents to send packages to a local pickup point and collect them independently.

How reliable is the internet at sea?

Internet at sea has improved significantly in recent years, but like cellular service, reliability can vary by location. There will be times when we need to use a backup connection that may be spotty or limited. Connectivity is a priority for us, and our founders understand the importance of planning for and implementing the best system within budget, especially while living and working on board.

Can I work full time remotely?

Yes, within reasonable and realistic expectations. We will do our best to support remote work by prioritizing connectivity as infrastructure and service providers allow.

Are there dedicated workspaces on board?

Yes. We plan to offer multiple workspaces to meet different needs. Some residents may prefer to work in a coffee shop style space or outdoors, while others need something more dedicated than their Residence. We expect to offer open office space for residents, and private offices in different areas of the ship that can be rented for an additional fee.

What medical care is available on board?

We plan to offer routine care and aim to staff our medical team for extended durations when possible (rather than shorter contractor cycles). Our intended care includes: 2 primary care doctors, 2 psychologists or mental health therapists, 4 nurses, 1 dentist and 2 hygienists for routine dental care, 1 to 2 physical therapists, and a remote dietician. We may also pursue additional specialties such as neurology, cardiology, and chiropractic care.

What happens in an emergency?

We expect regular medical hours, and we also expect emergencies. After hours, medical staff would be on call to provide urgent care. In more serious situations, the medical team may stabilize the situation and require evacuation to a full-service hospital.

Can I bring pets on board?

Yes. Dogs and cats will be allowed within standard guidelines and with an additional deposit and monthly fee per pet. We plan to offer veterinary and grooming services on board. Please see our Pets section for details.

How accessible is the ship for mobility needs?

As a former cruise ship, the vessel is expected to be reasonably accessible for many mobility needs. We plan to have ADA cabins and make as much of the ship accessible as possible within reason. Residents should be generally self-sufficient day to day, or provide their own support as needed.

How long do we stay in each port?

Port stays depend on the location and what it offers. In larger cities (for example Barcelona), we may stay 4 to 5 days. A medium stop (for example Palma) might be a couple of days. Smaller tender-only ports may be 2 to 3 days to allow residents to spread out and explore without overwhelming a location. We aim to be respectful stewards of the places we visit.

Can I leave the ship and rejoin later?

Yes. Residents can come and go in a generally pre-planned way for safety. If an owner is away for an extended period, we may also help rent out their unit depending on available demand and interest.

What regions does the ship travel through each year?

We expect to follow a warm-weather path that influences the regions we visit. We anticipate around 3 to 5 regions per year. We aim to avoid extreme winter routes (for example Iceland or Alaska in winter) and avoid equatorial routes during the hottest summer periods, while balancing visits between high and low season when possible. We expect roughly 1 to 3 port stops per week depending on location and distance. Our journey is at our pace, together.
