We are absolutely for those who want to bring their furry family members along for the journey and explore the world together! After all, our original inspiration for Fabled Voyages included the desire to travel with our own four-legged family. Our current planning includes a limit of two pets per standard cabin, with size restrictions of 40 lbs (18 kg) for dogs and 20 lbs (9 kg) for cats. Through our planned “Residential Neighborhoods” concept, we envision designated pet-friendly and non-pet areas, allowing residents to choose the environment that best suits their needs.
Pet related fees will help subsidize the cost of onboard veterinary services, grooming, and additional cleaning and hygiene requirements, making these services more accessible and affordable for residents traveling with their pets. We also want to provide designated indoor and outdoor spaces where pets can exercise, socialize, and take care of their business, while keeping these areas separate from the majority of non-pet spaces.
One important consideration is that residents should not assume their pets will automatically be permitted to disembark at every port or destination. Owners will be responsible for researching entry requirements, obtaining the necessary documentation, and arranging any required care or expenses before boarding, disembarking, or visiting individual destinations. We understand that not everyone is comfortable around animals, and we respect that. While we want to make life aboard welcoming for pets and their people, we also recognize the importance of providing comfortable spaces for those who prefer a pet-free environment. We may not be for everyone, but we want to make room for as many different lifestyles as reasonably possible.
Human children are, of course, welcome aboard as well! However, a residential cruise ship that continuously travels the world presents some unique considerations for families. While we may explore having tutors or educational support available onboard, responsibility for ensuring that children receive an appropriate education will always remain with their parents or legal guardians. Fabled Voyages will be more adult-focused, so we aren’t envisioning water slides, amusement parks, or large, dedicated children’s entertainment facilities. Instead, we are planning a variety of all ages amenities, including an arcade, movie theaters, outdoor recreation areas with traditional yard games, and other activities that residents of all ages can enjoy together.
Depending on the number of
children living aboard, we would also like to provide a dedicated children’s space that could serve as a game room, activity center, and flexible gathering area. We believe that growing up aboard a residential ship could offer children some extraordinary opportunities. Socializing with other children, interacting with adults from different generations and backgrounds, participating in planned activities, and experiencing cultures and destinations around the world can all contribute to a unique upbringing. And who knows? Some of the children aboard may find themselves surrounded by more adopted aunties, uncles, grandmas, and grandpas than they ever imagined!
